Why Does Strategy Matter?

Are You Fishing In The Wrong Place?

Thinking about going fishing for Alaskan salmon?

You’ve spent a lot of money on equipment and preparation:

Boat:    $30,000 tricked-out fishing boat
Boat trailer:  $1,800
Fish radar:  $750 top brand fish-finder electronic radar tool
Fishing line:  $75 for 300-lb test line
Fishing rod:  $700 graphite composite top-of-the-line rod
Lures:  $150 for live bait
Apparel:  $300 for brand fishing vest and hat

Despite all that preparation, if you drop your boat into Lake Erie, you’re going fail. You won’t find your target — Alaskan salmon — in Lake Erie.

Even though you made significant investments in the high-performance gear, your strategy was bad.  You didn’t know which of these decisions was MOST IMPORTANT for your desired outcome (catching Alaskan Salmon).  You might accidentally catch a few sunnies or carp…   but you won’t catch the fish that you really wanted.

Business is the same way.

How many times are you contacted by a website developer, sales trainer, or digital marketing company – offering to solve all of your problems with their product.  Sometimes they might work, but many times they won’t.  Why?  You need to select your marketing and sales tools that will work with your desired customer base, and contribute to your strategy.  You first need to define your business strategy, then select the tools that will be most effective in getting you there.

Your strategy and execution will define your success.  Map out your desired markets and customers, then design all other activities around that foundation.
